Permeable Driveway and Front Entry Upgrade
This project focused on upgrading the front entry experience with a permeable paver driveway, matching walkway, and integrated lighting. The goal was to improve drainage, durability, and curb appeal while working within the constraints of a tight residential street.
Permeable Driveway Installation
We excavated existing soils and compacted 1 to 2 inches of 1.5 inch crushed stone into the subsoil to establish a stable base. A geo-synthetic permeable fabric was installed, followed by 6 inches of 1.5 inch clean crushed stone, 3 inches of 3/4 inch clean crushed stone, and a 1 to 1.5 inch bedding layer of 1/4 inch clean stone.
The new driveway follows the existing layout while significantly improving drainage and long-term performance.
For the surface, we installed Unilock Artline Enduracolor pavers with the Umbriano finish. These presealed pavers are specifically well suited for driveways due to their resistance to oil stains and everyday vehicle wear.
Joints were finished with Easy Joint polymeric jointing material, a permeable solution that consistently outperforms traditional polymeric sand.
Driveway Lighting Design
To enhance safety and nighttime appearance, we installed a custom driveway lighting system using fixtures from Alliance, Cast, and In-Lite, powered by an Alliance astrological transformer.
This project includes an In-Lite zonable wireless transformer with two motion sensors and twenty-five In-Lite Fusion 22 paver lights. The lights were randomly placed throughout the driveway to create a subtle starry night effect while still providing functional illumination along the drive.
Front Walkway Replacement
We removed and replaced the existing front walkway to match the new driveway in both material and layout. The walkway follows the original path for familiarity while delivering a cohesive, updated look.
The existing granite step was carefully reset and incorporated into the new installation. We also installed six additional In-Lite Fusion 22 paver lights within the walkway to extend the starry night lighting feature from the driveway through the front entry.
The walkway was built using the same Unilock Artline Enduracolor pavers with Umbriano finish and finished with Easy Joint permeable jointing material for consistency and durability.
Project Challenges and Solutions
One of the main challenges on this project was the tight street access, which made transporting materials and equipment more difficult. Careful staging and planning allowed us to complete the installation efficiently while minimizing disruption to the surrounding area.
What Makes This Project Stand Out
This driveway was built using presealed pavers, making it highly resistant to oil stains and ideal for long-term driveway use. Combined with permeable construction and integrated lighting, the result is a front entry that performs as well as it looks.
